Another great BJJ Liga in the books!
Last weekend, we held another edition of our BJJ Liga tournament, and it was wonderful to see a big participation from our club, especially from our kids’ classes. It is great to see more and more of our kids and juniors trying their hand at competition, even if just to figure out if it is something they enjoy. We don’t expect specific results from our kids; rather, our goal is to foster a love for competition that will keep them coming back in the future.
Competing is one of the best ways to get bettter at jiu-jitsu and is also good for personal growth. Even when facing very tough opponents, it’s a valuable lesson to bet on yourself and give it your all. It builds perseverance and, frankly, courage. While some parents worry about their kids competing against someone bigger or more experienced, reminding them that the experience is about enjoyment, not results, can create a better atmosphere and increase the chances of success – both in terms of performance and enjoyment.
Our instructors emphasize these lessons, but ultimately, it’s up to parents to help their kids feel proud of their effort, win or lose. In fact, losing can often teach us more than winning. So, don’t hesitate to encourage your kids to take on big challenges – it will not only strengthen their resilience, but they will also remember how you supported them along the way.
At the end of the day, the results matter less than the journey. Children may forget the outcome of a match, but they’ll always remember the support and attitudes of the adults around them.

A great squat workshop completed!
This was also the weekend where our physical coach, Martin Prassé, taught a really great workshop on squatting technique.
Besides showing specific techniques and squat variations, Martin also shared some philosophy of choosing between squat exercises in accordance to personal goals.
Another big takeaway was learning to safely fail on the barbell squat. Learning how to bail on the barbell, when unable to properly perform the squat is invaluable, if you want to push yourself on this exercise.
A big thank you to Martin for a fantastic workshop, we look forward to the next one!
