To kampe, to sejre og endnu en flot dag for klubbens thaiboksere.

Last weekend Arte Suave held one of Scandinavia’s biggest jiu-jitsu tournaments, Danish Open, which ran over two days with over 1.000 registrations and cash prizes for winning in the adult open weight classes.
Arte Suave had 63 competitors in total with a record high amount of kids and juveniles competing: 26.
Our competitors did great and earned Arte Suave the team trophy in both gi and no-gi for the adult and masters category. A big congratulations to everyone who put themselves out there to test themselves, and for your results!
And thank you to everyone who spend their weekend working as staff and referees, and coaching their teammates – it is greatly appreciated!

Last week we had 16 competitors ranging from white belt all the way up to black belt, at the IBJJF European jiu-jitsu championship held in Portugal. We are as always proud to have so many students who are willing to step up to the challenge and competing at the highest levels of jiu-jitsu.
The Europeans is a long event spanning over more than a week, so it is great to be a big group that can support one another and socialize in- and around the days of matches.
Whether our competitors went all the way to the podium or lost their first match, they all bring home valuable competition experience and memories of the trip with their teammates. Well done to everyone of you and congratulations on your results and hard work leading up to the competition! A special congratulations to Grace, Joachim and Piotr who can call themselves Europeans champions!

Competing at international IBJJF tournaments

If you are interested in competing at bigger jiu-jitsu tournaments, there are plenty of opportunities in 2026. We encourage you to travel together with others from the club, as it’s more fun, easier, and often cheaper when we go together as a team.

How to get started with IBJJF:
1. Create a profile on ibjjf.com
2. Choose Checkmat Copenhagen as your academy
3. Choose Shimon Mochizuki as your coach
4. Send us a message when you’re waiting for approval (we don’t always get notifications)

See which tournaments others are attending:
Log in to the website → Events → Competitions
The list is continuously updated

We’re happy to help with registration + coordination!
When several of us go together, we often try to stay together to save money and build stronger team spirit!

New thai pads

Finally, we have brought in new Fairtex pads for thaiboxing – therefore we are selling our old ones for 300 DKK for a pair. Contact our reception if you are interested in buying.

Likewise, Mikkel took his opponent to the ground, and submitted him with an arm triangle choke, in the very first round.
Well done both of you and congratulations to the whole team – let’s keep this up for the rest of the year!

Rida came in as a literal last minute replacement for William Mørck who fell ill right before his match. Rida was enjoying dinner at a restaurant with his family, but was in the cage within an hour – winning the match in the very first round by armbar.
Truly a great way for the team to close out the year – well done both of you and congratulations to you and the whole MMA team behind you!
