2-1 for Arte Suave at MMA Galla

Last weekend, Mack Promanee, Mohamad Aljayyal, and Harald Danebod represented Arte Suave at MMA Galla in Nakskov.
Harald made an impressive debut, winning his MMA fight in the third round via TKO.
Mo fought at catchweight (73 kg) after his original opponent canceled. Despite a strong effort, the fight didn’t go Mo’s way, and he lost in the third round by TKO.
Mack entered the cage and dominated in a truly commanding style, finishing the fight in the first round with his signature guillotine choke.

Well done to all of you, and congratulations on your performances!

Another successful Checkmat open mat

Last weekend we had another great open mat for members of Checkmat. We were glad to once again see a high attendance, with participants from various gyms coming together to train, roll, and share knowledge in a friendly and competitive atmosphere.
These open mats are a great opportunity for everyone to sharpen their skills, test themselves against different opponents, and connect with fellow grapplers from the other Checkmat affiliated clubs.
Thank you to everyone who came out and contributed to the positive and collaborative environment—we look forward to seeing you at the next one!

Another case of staph

On a final note, we unfortunately have another case of staph infections in our club. We urge all our members to care for their hygiene and wear flip flops when going off of the mat. As martial artists, we frequently engage in close physical contact, making us more vulnerable to skin infections like staph. Staph bacteria can cause serious infections if they enter the body through cuts or abrasions. In Arte Suave the mats are cleaned professionally every night, after the club is closed, and we strive to keep a high hygienic standard. Here are some things that you personally can do, to protect yourself and others from infection:

  1. Shower Shortly After Training:
    • Always shower as soon as possible after practice to remove sweat, dirt, and bacteria that build up during training. Don’t delay it—clean skin is key to prevention.
  2. Wash Your Gear After Every Session:
    • Never reuse dirty gear. Sweat-soaked gis, rashguards, and towels are breeding grounds for bacteria. Make sure to wash everything, including your belt, after each training session.
  3. Keep Your Skin Covered:
    • If you have cuts, scrapes, or any open wounds, cover them with a clean bandage before training. This helps to prevent bacteria from entering.
  4. Check Your Skin Regularly:
    • Pay attention to any redness, swelling, warmth, or pain around a cut. These can be early signs of a staph infection. If you notice any unusual skin changes, or a wound that won’t heal normally, get it checked by a doctor.
  5. Wash Your Hands After Training:
    • Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after training. This simple step helps remove bacteria and prevents the spread of infection to others or to yourself if you touch your face or an open wound.
  6. Stay Home if You’re Injured or Sick:
    • If you have a skin infection or if in doubt, it’s best to skip training. This prevents spreading the infection to others and gives your body time to heal properly.

By following these guidelines, we can reduce the risk of staph infections in our community and ensure that everyone stays healthy and safe on the mats. Stay vigilant, and train smart!
